Herpes Zoster Vaccination (Shingles)

As older people are more likely to get shingles, the national shingles immunisation programme for people aged 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 and 78-79 is available, to protect those most at risk from shingles. This is a phased programme over the next few years. Therefore, NOT everyone will be eligible for the vaccine this year.

Routine shingles vaccination is available for patients born between 2nd September 1942 and 1st September 1948 and those born on or before 2nd September 1940 and aged 78 up until their 80th birthday.

People aged 80 and over are not eligible for the vaccine.
